Love with actions

1 John 3:1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

1 John 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

February is a month focused on love.  Today I was thinking about the craft that I would bring to Elijah's Valentine's party.  And lately I have been trying to figure how to make February a special month for my husband (his birthday is this month too).  And even at Elevation, we will soon begin Love Week, a huge initiative to love the city of Charlotte.

As I go about buying candy hearts and Hallmark cards and as I help my kids make Valentines for their friends, I plan to teach them 1 John 3:18.  Loving with actions, not just words.  I have a feeling my 4 and 6 year old children will catch on to it faster than I will.

I have heard it said that the way you can measure your ability to love is by how you treat the person you like the least.  My ability to love should not be measured in how I treat my children but in how I treat the neighborhood children, or the people I interact with my my kid's schools and the gym, not how I treat my friends.

Loving as Jesus loved means loving and expecting nothing in return, simply because the Father has lavished His love on me.

Hey, if you haven't been watching the Just One conference, you are missing out!  Just One is a virtual conference where in the comfort of your living room, you can hear from some amazing ladies like Kay Warren and Lisa Young.  Today I have the privilege of sharing along with several of my good friends in ministry.  I hope you will join us.  You can catch the conference at 11 am and 9 pm EST today.  Here is the link, see you there!

Thanks for the verse and idea..I am a preschool teacher working in a secular preschool but try to find different ways of sharing God's truth and teaching his principles with my 2 year olds (that I teach) without being able to quote scripture of course. I will defintely use this verse to teach them about loving God's way. This verse is perfect.

It's funny..their parents have no idea that each day I teach their children based off of God's word and God's priniciples. It's even funnier that they think that what I teach is amazing stuff. God's truth and his word are truly living and active. What a blessing to be able to share it with children-laying those foundations and planting seeds that will last a lifetime.

Wow, Holly, so hard to love one you hold with such bitterness. I pray about this stubborn bitterness and anger of mine. I dread Valentine's day but I am going to try to focus on those I love and not the one who no longer has my love or trust. Love does not have to be about a long-gone spouse or even a deadbeat dad or boyfriend. Love is love. Thank God I have good friends. xoxo

Hey Holly!

My name is Katherine i am 20 years old , from NY. I just wanted to say that your family has been such a blessing from your blog to the code orange revival . I wish that i could be at your church every sunday physically, but i thank you and your church for allowing me to get as close as possible to what God is doing not only in NC but around this nation. God has used your family (elevation church) to help and encourage me to grow in christ in so many ways. I thank God that he has used your family to minister not only to your state but to other states. It amazing that with God even me a girl who needed a revival like code orange could be a part of it and learn so much. I thank you so much and i hope you have a blessed day =)

Great Challenge and encouragement. It's so amazing how our children can love without question. Daily challenge for me as a mommy to be constantly showing the love of Christ. Thanks for all you and steven do to encourage my husband and I in our ministry and walk with the Lord. -Jill Bryant-
