Yesterday we started our new series, Summer Concert Series. The worship experience was loaded with amazing music. I cannot wait to see what they do next week! My husband's sermon was such a great inspiration to kick off the summer. He even preached from a boat!
The sermon was a tale of 2 boats, or maybe a tale of two preachers? Based on the story of Paul's shipwreck (Acts 27) on the way to Rome and the story of Jonah (Jonah 1).
The bottom line of the message was this question, "Are the people in your boat better off because you are in it?"
The boat represents our family, our relationships, our workplace, our school etc... You see, because Paul was on his boat, all the people were saved from death during a terrible storm. But Jonah nearly caused the death of all the people on his boat because of his disobedience to God.
This message really rang true for me. You know the saying, "If momma ain't happy, nobody's happy." My attitude can really affect my whole family. I can choose to speak words of life over my kids and my husband or words that bring discouragement and discontent.
You can listen to the message in our archive or at the Elevation Experience all week long. Have a great week!
Wow! I just listened to the first message of the "Summer Concert" series and made my way to your blog. My husband and I visited your church for the first time today and were blessed. This message hit me especially hard today because my husband and I are relocating to the area. In spite of the awesome job offer my husband just accepted I have had an incredibly hard time accepting this move. I love when Pastor posed the question of if I am "making the boat better." After reflecting on my recent behavior I could imagine that my husband wants to throw me overboard! I have been anything but supportive about this move. I am now focusing on being a more supportive wife. After all, he is working hard to support me and our new baby (expected to arrive in August). Thank you for sharing. Both you and your husband have already shown to be a blessing in my life.

Its sad, but I feel like I use the "if momma aint happy, no ones happy" line to benefit me and what I want way too many times. Its humbling to realize not only that you have so much power in your family, but even more humbling to realize that God blessed you with the power to influence your family. They are our arrows after all, we need them flying straight and true..

Wow. Really needed to hear this on this lovely (or no) Monday morning. We have our College and Young Adult services Sunday nights...and Mondays are always painful for me. And my attitude often reflects that. Will have to listen to the message. Thanks!
