Our Halloween

Pumkin activities 047 Pumkin activities 048 Pumkin activities 076 Pumkin activities 079

Hope you had a great Halloween!  We had a great time celebrating on Thursday with our staff as well as Saturday night.  I am proud to announce that due to a bet that I made (and lost) with my husband over the Miami vs Clemson game two weeks ago, I did not eat one piece of Halloween candy.  Nope not one.  Canes, you really let me down this time.

PS.  Click here to see pics from past Halloweens in the Furtick house.

Pumpkin week... a visit to the pumpkin patch

This past Friday we visited Riverbend Pumpkin patch.  This is the third pumpkin patch in our area that we have been to since living here and by far the best.  The boys enjoyed the animals, got to select their pumpkin from a real pumpkin patch (not a pile), and played on a really cool playground.  We had a great time, they didn't want to leave.  We will definitely go back next year.

You asked... my day

What does a 'normal' day look like for you: Do you and the boys spend most of the day at home, or do you participate in lots of activities with them? (story time at the library, playgroup, etc)  What time do you get up in the morning? Do the boys take naps? When is "me time" for you & what do spend your "me time" doing? How does your family spend evenings together after dinner? Posted by: Rachel

I purposefully waited to answer this question until after the summer because our summer routine is so different from what we do during the school year (as I sure is the same for most of you).  So now that our routine is officially routine, I will share with you what our week looks like.

Our boys wake up between 7-8 each day.  M/W/F, Elijah is in 4-K from 9-1pm.  Graham goes 1-2 days a week (9-1pm) in a 2 year old program at Elijah's school.  I have a class at the gym that I take while the boys are in school (or Graham goes with me if he is not in school that day).  During this time I also try to run errands, and/or visit our church office.  We are almost always home by 2pm.

In the afternoons, Graham takes a 2 hour nap and Elijah has room time.  This is my down time where I try to take care of bills, calls, blog, read, bible study (and occasionally nap). After rest time, our afternoons are filled with play (inside or outside) and maybe cartoon or two while I cook dinner.  My husband usually comes home around 6.  We eat dinner and after a little play time with Daddy, we have bath/story/bed time.  Our kids go to bed pretty early, between 7-8.

Tuesdays are our no plans day.  We make dr. appointments etc, but try to stick around the house.  Thursdays we are in a morning Bible study with some other ladies from our church.  Our afternoon and evening are the same every day (except Thursday is our date night :) ).

Fridays are special, my husband's day off.  We spend time together in the morning (while the boys are at school) and then a fun activity with the boys that afternoon.  Weather permitting, we'll do a pumpkin patch this week.

It feels good to have routine, its not glamorous, but no one's life really is.  Our kids seem to behave better because they know what to expect.

Saturdays we gear up for the weekend at church which begins about 4pm that night (service at 6) and then services all day on on Sunday.  Our weekend routine is a whole other post for another day.

Today is Tuesday and Elijah and Graham have some friends here playing.  They are making a mess and having a great time.  I have four little ones waiting anxiously to make sugar cookies.  Check back here or my twitter later for some pics.

First Day of School

For those of you who don't have preschoolers, I know the start of school has come and gone.  But today is the day in the Furtick household and I think I am the most excited.  Elijah will be going three days a week, Graham, two, both from 9-1pm.

Teacher gifts were ready, bags and lunches packed, outfits laid out last night.  I was trying to set myself up for us to be on time this morning (I have issues).

I have great plans for my two free days a week...
-Clean out desk
-Clean out junk drawer in kitchen
-Clean out Elijah's clothes to pass to Luke
-Clean out my closet to pass to Matthews Help
-Clean out the un-played-with toys in this house, donate

I guess I have a lot of cleaning to do.  When I am done with that, maybe it will be time for Christmas break.

Check back later for pictures.

What do you do when your kids are at school?

Family Day

Vacation with Boitnotts etc... 016Today is family day and we are all excited.  Actually, its family weekend as we have some grandparents coming for a visit.  The weekend promises to be filled with great food and great fun.

We're kicking the weekend off with a visit to the Lazy 5 Ranch.  We've been there once before when Elijah was about Graham's age.  Please excuse the poor picture from my old camera.  Belive it or not, thats the best picture I took that day (boy doesn't my husband look different!).

Since we are not exactly what you would call an animal loving family, we're sure to have a few scares along with some good laughs.  Pictures to come.

What are you doing this holiday weekend?

A visit from Lukey

4 pm couldn't come soon enough today (written yesterday).  Lukey was coming over and Elijah has been beside himself with anticipation.  Luke is our 3 year old cousin, his birthday is right in between Elijah and Graham's and he is the perfect playmate for them.  Luke is spending tonight and tomorrow night with us.  We have already had tons of fun...

Glad Game

Its time for the Glad Game again.  10 Things I am glad about this Friday...

  1. Harry and David Earl Grey tea.  I am walking the wild side this morning as I stray from Tazo Awake.
  2. Another successful ear tube/adenoid surgery.  Elijah is feeling much better today.
  3. Glad we met our deductible this year and this 4th ear surgery for our family this year will not cost much.
  4. Costumes.  They make my children happy.
  5. New Matthews campus building keeps miraculously passing inspections, still set to open on time.
  6. Glad that my dream last night was just a dream.  I will spare you the details.
  7. I have a Top Chef Masters waiting to be watch on my DVR.
  8. My husband fixed breakfast for himself and the boys this morning.  I watched them eat together and it was precious.
  9. My best friend, Nicole, celebrated her birthday yesterday and not only are we celebrating tonight, but I also have the most awesome gift ever for her.  She is going to freak.  Thank you ebay.
  10. Its Friday, in my boys' world that means, "Daddy doesn't go to work today."  See how happy they are?

Riding in cars with boys

August 011One day last week we were by the office at the end of the day so Elijah rode home with my husband.  Graham was not happy about this.  I had to tell him next time it was his turn.  Later in the week my husband met us at the pool after work, so Graham got his turn to ride.

Ever since then Graham keeps asking "Ride daddy beep beep?"

So tonight before dinner, they went for a ride.  I heard that daddy drove fast and played the music loud.

Our week

August 19 Elijah completed his first ever sports camp.  He had an awesome time (thanks again Jamie!). He says his favorite sport is basketball.August 006

Graham and I scored this awesome table at Target for $15 while waiting for Elijah to get out of camp (originally $60!!).

Today we ate at the Flying Biscuit for lunch with Daddy and Aunt Joy after camp.

Looking forward to a great weekend at Elevation!
