Pumpkin bread

I try to post this recipe every year about this time.  It is really wonderful.  I got it out of a Southern Living Magazine about 5 years ago and have made it every year since.  I actually made this recipe and took it to all our neighbors when we first were planting Elevation.  I wrote handwritten note inviting our them to our church.  None of them ever came to my knowledge :(.

I never make anything from scratch, except this recipe.  It is easy and the flavors are not too strong. I hope you will make it and enjoy!

Pumpkinbread

  • 3 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 (15 oz) can pumpkin

Mix everything together, add flour gradually at the end.

Pour into 3 greased 9 x5 loaf pans (or substitute 3 mini loafs for one of the large loaf pans).  Bake at 350 for 50 minutes to an hour (less time if using mini loaves).

Hint: I like to dust the pan with cinnamon/sugar mixture after greasing to give the crust extra sweetness.

I saw it on your blog a couple of years ago, tried it, and have been hooked ever since. :> Thanks for sharing!

P.S. Cheering Elevation Church on from Quest Community Church in Lexington, KY... Thanks for your faith-filled, audacious obedience to God's whispers... He's really using you guys to change the world!

I am making this for my lovely fiancé. She is out of town for the weekend so when she gets back we will have some great pumpkin break. Thank you Holly!

Mmmm...I wish I could have some of that right now:) Maybe when we get home from Uganda!

This is the same recipe I use! It was passed to me by a friend. Last year I made loaves for a few neighbors inviting them to church as well. None of them have come yet either. =)

Thank you for posting this delicious goodness!! :)

Looks like a wonderful recipe! Thanks for sharing. I really want to make a comment to you and your husband about a beautiful example I saw - it was the 3rd in the Hebrews series (thru the website, videos archive), and your husband was simply introducing P. Craig G., and in so doing, really really struck a cord. What a convicting intro. for me, as I heard about the beautiful loving relationship from one brother to another younger brother!! Wow, all I could think of was, "that's what Christ is talking about when He tells us that we will be a witness to the world of Himself, by the love we have one to another". It spoke greatly to my heart, and challenged me to do the same - pour into another's life, simply b/c of love for the brethren, just b/c of compassion, receiving nothing in return, just loving on another, encouraging another, mentoring another. Anyway, just wanted to share and wasn't sure where, but I knew I could comment here, so be encouraged to know that God used your husband in an incredible way, simply thru an introduction! God bless your sweet family!

I saw you post this recipe maybe two years ago and I have been making it ever since too. Instead of making it in loaves, I found this cute little muffin pan with ghost and pumpkin shapes. It's easy, my kids love it, and I bring it to every party I go to in October and November! It has become a part of our family tradition.

Thanks for sharing, Holly! It looks yummy- can't wait to try it!!

This sound really tasty! October is one of my favorite months. I'll have to make this with my mom next time she's in town. Thanks for the recipe.
