Monday Morning (or Afternoon) Commentary

I took a long weekend from blogging but it is Monday afternoon and I am back.  I have literally sat down to type this post 5 times.  Graham is not feeling great today.  Every time he sees me at the computer, he crawls in my lap and insists on watching Wade sing "My Wock" as my boys call it.  Currently I am being saved by Land Before Time so here I go again.  My apologies for those of you have been wondering where I have been.

Cow Tipping

Yesterday we began our new series called Cow Tipping.  Its a series where we address some of the sacred cow issues of the church.  Issues that most churches don't want to talk about.  Yesterday's message was about Divorce, Abortion and Sexual Immorality based out of 1 Corinthians 5.

My husband had not preached in four weeks and boy did he bring it.  I spent the weekend in Virginia at a family reunion and came home at 10 pm on Saturday night.  I wouldn't have missed yesterday for the world.  The messaged was quite confrontational and tense with lots of corny cow jokes laced in for comic relief.

I think my favorite thing my husband said was his illustration about the fence...  A few months ago, we put a fence in our backyard.  When the fence was complete, my husband had a conversation with Elijah about how the fence was going to give him more freedom because now he could play outside even if mommy was inside.  The fence would protect him from cars and bad people... My husband said that when we examine God's protective parameters for our lives, we shouldn't see them as bad.  Its freedom.  Its not so God can box you in, its so you can enjoy good things.

God's standards for sex are not about suppressing the "true you," it's about expressing the "new you."

I love this thought.  It translates to every area of my life.  When I live my life inside the parameters that God sets for me, I experience freedom.

Graham's back.  Gotta go.  You can listen to the message here later today.

Thanks for everything you said Heather!

This sermon has stuck with me all week. I can't get the principles out of my head. 'Grace is not a commodity to cover up your sin, rather the power to remove it'.....LOVE this! Thank you for the confidence to act in faith, and to continue to live by a higher standard.

Sounds like a great series--I love the graphic!
Wanted to tell you and Pastor Steven: I felt like some good praise and worship yesterday (our church is quite weak in the music department) so I went to Granger Community Church's website and picked a random service to watch. It just happened to be Pastor Steven's One Prayer message. God spoke.
